UK Evac. Britain's elite forces, including
SAS and Royal Marines, rescued United Kingdom diplomats and
their families from Sudan amid bloody conflict between the
country's army and a powerful paramilitary group. British
soldiers linked up with the UK personnel where they were
'sheltering' at the UK embassy and accompanied the group on an
18-mile journey to an airfield. They infiltrated during the
night -flown in on an American aircraft. Then they got hold of
several local vehicles and drove into Khartoum where they
linked up with the diplomatic staff. Once linkup was effected,
the party of soldiers and about 30 evacuees drove to an
airfield located outside of the city and boarded two Royal Air
