Humanitarian Assistance
Gaza Strip Conflict

Maritime Corridor for Humanitarian Assistance

The United States and other nations are joining together to establish a sea-borne method of delivering food and other types of assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip. A major part of this plan, referred to as the Amalthea Initiative, is the building of a temporary pier in Gaza. Read the joint statement published by the White House on March 8, 2024. The U.S. will be building a temporary pier using its DoD JLOTS capability for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Air Drops of Humanitarian Assistance

The United States and other nations have conducted parachute drops of humanitarian assistance to residents of Gaza. The Jordanian Air Force has been doing this for months - likely since November. The United States had conducted at least five parachute drops from C-130s by mid-March - mostly along the coastline of Northern Gaza. The air drops are being conducted because not enough aid is going through the land border points. In an airdrop conducted in early March five people were killed when hit by fallen food containers. It is speculated that the deaths occurred when people gathered under descending parachutes from a UAE C-130.
